This post is dedicated to anyone who’s ever thought they were broken and could never be healed. You are more beautiful, than you will ever know…
Watch this post on Youtube (30min), it includes extra tips!
After many prompts for inner healing, including 11:11 and repeated number signs, I’ve cleared a lifelong belief that ‘I am weak’ using past life regression and the White Light Essences (blog on these to come). I did this by recalling a life as a healthy woman in Europe called Helga-Marie, who rarely fell sick and had a ball of a time following her dreams. Since this healing, I’ve had so more energy! So here’s a post on the spiritual meaning of 9 common dis-eases, part 1 of 2.
How Dis-ease Can Bring You Presence
We come to Earth to learn, and someone or something must be our teacher, be it dis-ease, a critic, difficult parent, ex-partner, challenging child, or other life crisis. Choosing to see illness as Spirit in Santa’s clothing is not white-washing or denial. A positive attitude maximises your capacity to work through the lesson, and come out the other side healed externally, internally or both. As the Buddhist saying goes, ‘happiness doesn’t depend on who you are or what you have. It depends solely on what you think.”
Here are my experiences with several illnesses, and how they’ve enhanced my spiritual maturity. As an ex-scientist, I only write about topics I know (from personal, client and family experience). While this makes me a slow producer , it also means I don’t waste your time on theories. You only get blogs based on real-life awakenings and practical solutions.
1) The Spiritual Meaning of Depression and Mental Illness – “Your Soul needs attention, you are more than a body”
Countless psychics and healers (including myself), began their sacred journey of re-parenting and self-education after experiencing depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and so on. Sensitive people (especially those with Master 11/22/33/44 numerology – find your lifepath) often create masks to survive their intense childhoods.
They pretend they don’t care, that nothing fazes them, when in reality they feel painfully alone. Yet there comes a time when they must outgrow their fears, and let go and let God (especially when 11:11 appears). As they say, ‘the longest journey you’ll ever make is from your head to your heart’. Mental illness is a sign that your Spiritual needs are not being met, it’s time to open your mind again. See my article on Composite Whorl fingerprints and the supposed link to schizophrenia and manic depression.
Suggestions for healing: Depression is linked to a blocked 3rd (Solar Plexus Chakra – your power centre). You need to bring sunlight and hope back to your Soul, through hearty outdoors exercise, nature, music, an energy-positive diet (food and otherwise – reducing sugar can help), being with inspiring people and focusing on what you can do, rather than what you can’t. Your mind needs new goals to achieve, and things to learn, rather than more facebook-ing. Bored superheroes only create drama…See The Shamanic View of Mental Illness (how mental illness signals the birth of a healer in the Dagara). It’s by Jayson Gaddis and Stephanie Marohn. BTW, in response to queries, I am not against anti-depressants – some people need them to get going, however I personally prefer to use alternative, more sustainable forms of healing.
We live in a society where we are force-fed ideas (and food), often from birth. Our parents and teachers tell us what to think, our bosses tell us what to do, the media tells us what we should aspire to. Why? Because this behaviour keeps us powerless and easy to control – caged chickens produce caged chicks, so to speak. No wonder so many people have stiff necks and shoulders, and trouble speaking from the heart! They’ve been trained to be talking heads. That’s why my favourite saying is “don’t should on me and I won’t should on you…rushing creates 80% of all our problems!”Suggestions for healing: Frequent coughs, sore throats, colds, flus and bugs are linked to an imbalanced 5th (Throat Chakra – our inner voice – even the word INTUITION adds to 5 in numerology). Many women have under-active thyroids, perhaps because we’re so accustomed to biting our tongues and ‘being polite’. It’s time to stop the madness and be the leader again. For all our sakes, please speak up. Spirit can’t help you without your permission. Putting up with bullying, just hurts the people coming after you. Make the world a better place, not a painful race.Your body is like a puppy, it can’t eat, sleep or toilet without your help. Don’t let other people kick you round any longer! Extreme self-care (as taught by Cheryl Richardson), is an act of rebellion in a society that rushes us senseless. Rejig your diary so it reflects your values…See this video about Steven Covey’s ‘fish tank’ analogy – Steven is a Master 22 lifepath (Master Builder), they’re here to help us go deeper.
3) The Spiritual Meaning of Allergies (Hayfever, Gluten, Dairy) – “Stop pushing down your feelings, listen to your heart”
Since I began studying nutrition and furthering my psychic readings, I’ve stopped eating gluten and dairy – not entirely by choice. Medical tests show that I am intolerant to both (see this post about my lactose intolerance since birth). When I eat them, I get anxious, stop sleeping and, err, stop other important functions! The good news is, I’m riding a wave of gluten and dairy free cooking, especially in Brisbane where I live. It’s easy for me to find support here. Many 11:11 See’rs change their diets (e.g. go vegan, vegetarian etc), especially while they’re upgrading their lifestyles and careers. As someone who’s recovered from an eating issue all I can say is, allergies and digestive issues often lead us to our tribe. Enjoying what you can eat, while working on gut healing, is more important than feeling deprived and pitiful about your current reality. I eat organic meat now, because I’m pregnant and it keeps me active (I’m already quite a passive person), but my husband is a vegetarian.
Suggestions for healing: Allergies trigger many chakras, but I particularly link them to a sensitive 4th (Heart Chakra – our joy centre) and 6th (Third Eye Chakra – our mind and vision). Hayfever can suggest ‘inner crying’ and problems ‘in your face’ that you are avoiding, especially interpersonal conflict – see my post on How Letting People Down Can Raise You Up.
To resolve your history of ‘over-reacting’, you need to detox your environment, as well as strengthen your aura, mind and body to give yourself the right conditions for success. Finding your lifepath can help. Also see Deanna Minich’s books on chakra foods.
Regarding digestive allergies and intolerances, where have ‘you had a gutful’ and lost your appetite for life? Maybe it’s time to look at where your food and thinking really comes from? What kind of future do you want? Are you feeding faceless giants or supporting local, organic entrepreneurs who are healing the planet (e.g. see Spray-free Farmacy)?
Gluten represents ‘conventional thinking’, power structures, agriculture, and income generation. My background is Agriculture and Environmental Science. Most commercial crops today have been modified through intensive selection, chemical exposure etc. It may look like food but it’s not what your grandparents ate. These plants have a ‘monoculture’ energy which encourages conformity and robot thinking. Perhaps you’re here to do it differently? Eating gluten-free, or low-gluten diets brings back your creativity, that’s for sure.
Dairy comes from female cows who are milked, inseminated and have their babies removed. It’s a classic pick-me-up for people who feel sad, and yearn for ‘mother’s love’ (see 1.) Doreen Virtue, the author of Constant Craving, and a Master 11 Lifepath (Spiritual Messenger) writes about this. Giving up cheese took me years but it led to me dealing with some serious mental issues too. I stopped pretending I was content with a 9-5 job, and finally chased down my ideal life.
4) The Spiritual Meaning of Addictions (Alcohol, Drugs, Smoking, Overspending, Work) – “Why do you think you’re not valuable? You’re priceless!”
Of all the dis-eases mentioned, addiction has been the most powerful spiritual teacher in my life. I know how it feels to live with alcoholics and drug addicts, and the children and grand-children of these Souls. I have literally taken the knife from a drunk partner, before he stabbed someone in front of me. That experience taught me more about myself, than my whole University degree. I saw how I used ‘rescuing’ as a way of avoiding my needs and necessary journey.
It wasn’t until I realised I am priceless (Money Love helped), that I stopped dating shut-down men. These days, I know 100% that I am worth more than all the gold on the planet – there has never been anyone like me in the 108 billion humans who have walked the Earth. You’re just as special!
All I can say is, there’s a reason someone drowns their sorrows. Until you release the pain and low-confidence within yourself (e.g. through Family Constellations, Holistic Counselling, Reiki, past life regressions, crystal healing etc), you’ll keep attracting ‘healers-in-disguise’. Even when you are healed, you may still find that temptations come and go, especially at turning points like a 1, 11/2 or 9 Personal Year in numerology (find your personal year). As they say, ‘raise your vibration and you will be tested’. We’re all addicts in a way. The trick is to choose addictions which will prolong, rather than reduce your life force.
Suggestions for healing: Among others, I link addictions to the 1st (Root Chakra – our family tree and grounding), 2nd (Sacral Chakra – feelings, relationships, past lives) and 3rd (Solar Plexus Chakra) energy centres. As an 11/2 lifepath, you can see why addiction has been a core theme of my journey. To me, addictions (and being with addicts) create a sense of safety and security – something that consistently gives you a ‘high’ or ‘low’ when the world always seem to let you down. See my post on the Girdle of Venus in palmistry.
Until you find other activities that give you the same buzz as your addiction (for me, these include cooking, meditation, yoga, and running a spiritual business), you will keep going back to these old patterns. Just remember, you’re a human being, not a human doing…
Jost Sauer is a Master 11 lifepath, whose book The Perfect Day Plan helped me to understand why lifestyle change and an open mind is an essential part of addiction recovery. He has created a successful drug recovery program. I briefly helped in his Brisbane clinic – at the time, all his therapists were ex-addicts and Master Numbers too! See my post on alcoholism as well.
5) The Spiritual Meaning of a Sick Child – “Where is a small part of you tired and unwell?”
Before giving birth, I had no idea children were so conscious. Then I had Forrest. Now I know why I delayed having kids until I was 35, and psychic! Before I conceived, he sat on my bed and said ‘hurry up, you’re late!’. After birth, he talked to me in perfect English in my dreams. When I cry, he cries…even if he’s asleep. The day after I saw Wonder Woman, he started carrying a hanger and pot lid like a bow and shield…even though he never watched the film. Within hours of me taking the White Light ‘Fire’ Essence for spiritual direction, he fell sick with his first fever, inspiring me to build a home office, write this blog post and my video channel on Youtube. So, I’m convinced that we are energetically connected, no matter what the sceptics say.
When Forrest is sick (which luckily, is not often), I take a good hard look at myself, because I believe our outer child can be the loudspeaker for our inner voice. Children are the canaries in the gold mine – Spirit uses them as heralds, to tell us when we’re off-track, and also give us clues as to our next steps.
For example, the week Forrest had an ear infection, I had been saying to myself ‘I wish he would just be quiet’. No surprise, his left ear (feminine side) became inflamed and he stopped talking. Of course, when he was lying there miserable, I felt terrible that my wish had come true. It was a good reminder for me to grow up, instead of trying to keep Forrest down. I immediately sought help for my stress levels, and he soon bounced back.
Suggestions for healing: Issues with our children can suggest imbalances in various chakras, especially the 3rd (Solar Plexus Chakra) and 5th (Throat Chakra) – see point 2. in this post. Children draw energy from their parents, invisibly and visibly, which means it’s essential you stay ‘in credit’ and ‘fuelled up’, even when life gets busy.
Visualising yourself in a white bubble, and your child in another bubble can help you get a good night’s sleep if you tend to worry about them, as can using the affirmation ‘we are separate but always connected and protected’. Also, see my Angel Meditation for restoring your wholeness.
If your kids seem to be chronically unwell, it’s essential to look at the spiritual payoffs – what are the benefits to you, and to them of taking time out? Although it sounds weird, some people find their purpose as a result of their child’s illness or syndromes, and this can be part of our greater karmic plan. I have also met a lot of successful people, who were sick when they were young, which forced them to become resilient and patient, qualities that have led them to incredible wisdom.
In other cases, you may be using your child’s problems to get attention subconsciously, e.g. from society or even your partner and health practitioners. This is not something to feel guilty about (goodness knows, parents feel guilty enough), however there are better ways to make yourself known.
Ask yourself – did my parents live through me, too? Am I willing to discover who I am, without hiding behind my family duties? Life coaching, counselling, and speaking to trusted friends may help you identify what’s really going on. Please – reach out, the truth is always kinder than your thinking.
As Kahlil Gibran wrote,
“Your children are not your children.

I can totally relate to the depression article, wow, never thought of it that way. My journey of self discovery/awareness, my place in the world and what I have to offer it began with my episode of depression. I started asking the important questions after that episode. Thanks for sharing that with us And it has been a crazy emotional week leading up to this eclipse! All the best with the birth of your second baby xSarah Yip 22/8/2017
Very grateful to be of service Melissa! I can’t tell you how much depression has opened me up to miracles, support and alternative therapies. It really was the doorway to my happiness but I just had to trust my Soul knew what the heck it was doing at the time. Wishing you well xx
