I’ll spare you the details of her passing in a shopping centre bathroom, suffice to say it was one of the worst cases police had seen. Every 3 years there is another parole hearing.
Sofia’s family and community in Western Australia lobbied for many changes after her death, including increased sentencing and a sex offenders register.
11/11 is a wake up code for humanity and it seems that Sofia was very spiritual. Her family have inspired many with their Catholic faith, compassion and resilience (she had 3 siblings). 11:11 Clocks page
The police liaison officer for her case, Paul Litherland, went on to become WA Australian of the Year. He has been a Pioneer and teacher in cybersafety at Surf Online Safe. He is a survivor of domestic violence and other huge life challenges.
I share Sofia’s story to raise awareness that good can come from horror and that it takes the action of thousands to truly change society for the better.
Never doubt that your words and energy can make a difference to the greater world. We all have the power to light a flame for justice.

P.s Sadly, when I was 8, a student was assaulted in our school toilets. This type of crime is so often not solved or reported. We have to turn the tide.
