As a child, mum would buy a $3 supermarket madeira cake for my birthday as we were on a tiny budget. I loved this special treat.
As an adult, I was stoked to find a recipe for the real thing with eggs, almond flour, boiled oranges, sugar and baking powder. I baked one of these cakes after Forrest was born and this is the first one I’ve made in the new house. Feels important.
